Diving – My Escape into Another World

As a child, I was fascinated by the documentaries of Jacques Cousteau.

The images of divers exploring mysterious shipwrecks and swimming alongside dolphins made me dream of one day doing the same. At 20 years old, I finally took the plunge—literally—and got my first diving certification. Since then, diving has been my ultimate way to relax, a world without stress where time seems to stand still.

Why the Red Sea is a Diver’s Paradise

If you’re looking for a top diving destination, the Red Sea should be at the top of your list! It’s easy to reach from Luxembourg, affordable, and offers warm waters, incredible visibility, and stunning marine life. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced diver, there’s something for everyone.

For me, the biggest thrill is wreck diving, and the Red Sea is full of incredible wrecks!
🚢 Thistlegorm – a WWII British cargo ship, still filled with motorcycles, trucks, and even train wagons.
Rosalie Moller & Giannis D. – eerie, beautiful wrecks where marine life has completely taken over.

Egypt also has great hotels with excellent dive schools. One of my favorites? The Club Akassia Swiss Resort in Marsa Alam. Its house reef is perfect for relaxed dives straight from the beach.

But if you’re looking for the ultimate diving adventure, then you have to try a liveaboard safari! Imagine spending a whole week on a boat, doing up to four dives a day, far away from everything, in the middle of the sea. It’s exhausting, yes—but also unforgettable. There’s nothing like watching a breathtaking sunset over the ocean after a day filled with incredible dives.

The Amazing Creatures of the Underwater World

Every dive is different, and the marine life always surprises you. One day, you might spot a giant sea turtle, the next, a shark might silently glide past. Some of my favorite encounters include:

🐙 Octopuses – true masters of disguise, changing colors in an instant.
🦈 Sharks – impressive and majestic, yet often misunderstood.
🐡 Pufferfish – inflating into funny little balls when they feel threatened.
🐍 Moray eels – looking scary with their open mouths, but actually quite harmless.
🦑 Nudibranchs – tiny, brightly colored sea slugs that are a real treasure to find.

Sometimes, the smallest creatures are the most exciting. You have to carefully scan the reef, looking into tiny crevices to find hidden shrimp or camouflaged fish. But when you finally spot one, it's like discovering a secret world!

Night Diving – A Whole New Experience

If you’ve never tried night diving, you’re missing out on something truly magical. As soon as the sun sets, the ocean transforms. The fish that were active during the day go to sleep, and new predators emerge to hunt in the dark.

One of the most mesmerizing things I’ve ever seen? Bioluminescent plankton! Imagine waving your hand in the water and watching it glow like a sky full of stars. It’s a completely surreal experience.

My Favorite Dives Around the World

I’ve been lucky enough to dive over 600 times in 15 different countries and explore more than 80 dive sites. My farthest dive? French Polynesia, where I had the chance to dive in Moorea, Bora Bora, and Tikehau.

But you don’t have to travel halfway across the world to find great diving! The Mediterranean has some fantastic spots, especially in Greece, Croatia, and Spain. The colors may not be as intense as in the Red Sea, but the marine life is still full of surprises.

Want to Try Diving? Just Go for It!

If you’ve never been diving before but you’re curious, just give it a try! Most dive centers offer introductory dives, where you can experience breathing underwater for the first time with an instructor. And if you’re ready to get certified, you can complete your Open Water Diver course in just a few days.

One important tip: get a medical check-up before you go. Many countries require a medical certificate (in English) to confirm that you’re fit to dive. If you’re already certified, make sure your certificate is less than six months old.

My Must-Have Gear for Every Dive Trip

When I travel for diving, I always bring:
My mask – perfectly fitted for comfort.
My regulator – because I trust my own gear.
My dive computer – essential for safety and tracking dives.
My fins – I’m used to them, so they feel just right.

Of course, dive centers provide full equipment, so no worries if you don’t have your own gear. But if you dive regularly, having your own essentials makes a huge difference.

Why You Should Try Diving

Diving isn’t just a hobby—it’s an entirely new way to experience the world. It’s floating weightlessly, exploring hidden landscapes, and encountering creatures you’d never see on land. It’s pure freedom, an escape from everyday life.

So, if you’ve ever thought about it—take the plunge! You won’t regret it. 🌊🐠✨
