New Entry Requirements for the UK

The UK government is introducing an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system for travelers entering the United Kingdom, applicable for travel dates starting from April 2, 2025.

An Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for the UK is a digital permit required for travelers who do not need a visa but are visiting, studying, working, or transiting through the UK. It is linked to the traveler’s passport and must be obtained before traveling.

Who Needs an ETA?

The UK ETA applies to travelers from visa-exempt countries who do not require a visa to enter the UK.

The ETA does not replace a visa for those who require one, but it is mandatory for travelers without a visa or other immigration status, including children and infants. Please note that an ETA does not guarantee entry into the UK.

How to Apply?

ETA applications can be submitted online since March 5, 2025, via the official UK government website or through the UK ETA app.

Good to Know!

• The passport used to apply for the ETA must be the same as the one used for travel and must be presented at border control.
• The UK ETA is valid for two years or until the passport expires—whichever comes first.
• Travelers can visit the UK multiple times within the validity period of the ETA.
• The ETA allows eligible travelers to stay for up to six months for purposes such as tourism, visiting family and friends, business, or short-term studies.
• Each traveler requires their own ETA, including children and infants.
• Applications should be submitted at least 72 hours before the intended travel date, if possible.
• Most travelers will receive a decision within three business days.
• Once granted, the traveler will receive a confirmation email.
• The ETA is subject to a fee, payable by credit card.
